A DIFFICULT 2022 FOR TRANSPORT COMPANIES
After the pandemic that in the last two years caused one of the most frightening economic crises of the last post-war period, now it is the turn of expensive fuel that is bringing trucking companies to their knees in the first place and consequently all economic sectors that depend on transport. of road freight.
And this is no small thing, because 80% of goods in Italy travel on trucks, so we are talking about a truly fundamental sector of the Italian economy.
If during the lockdown the hauliers performed an essential service by continuing to travel to constantly guarantee the supply of goods, now the situation is unsustainable, because the increase in fuel is accompanied by other costs such as tires, expensive energy and increase in motorway costs. Among the inconveniences we include the chronic shortage of drivers, because fewer and fewer young people want to do this job; yet the unemployed are not lacking, but this is another matter.
What we would like to emphasize today is that diesel fuel has risen by 20.7% in the last year with an increase in costs of 535 million euros for companies of any type that deal with the transport of goods.
This situation is becoming unsustainable especially for Sicily and the southern regions, where several trucks loaded with goods such as citrus fruits, vegetables and practically a whole series of perishable goods that risk being thrown away daily left for northern Italy. Among other things, the winds of war blowing in Eastern Europe due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine do not make things easier.
So what to do? Urgent interventions by the government are needed to avoid a war between the poor.
