IN 2020 A 21% FLEXION IN THE REGISTRATION OF TRAILERS AND SEMI-TRAILERS

IN 2020 A 21% FLEXION IN THE REGISTRATION OF TRAILERS AND SEMI-TRAILERS
In 2020, due to the pandemic, the registration sector of towed vehicles also suffered a drastic decline, marking a decrease of 21% or 11,350 units registered compared to 14,431 in 2019. When we talk about towed vehicles we refer to trailers and semi-trailers that in turn they are divided into heavy vehicles and light vehicles.
As regards the fleet in the heavy trailers and semi-trailers sector, there is a counter-trend; in fact we are talking about a significant increase in 2020 which reaches a quota of 414,798 units registered: 9,400 more vehicles than in 2019 (+ 2%) and 21,520 more than in 2018 (+ 5%).
As for the radiated vehicles in 2020, the percentage is around 22% compared to 2019 against 41% compared to 2018, i.e. 3,058 cancellations of which 1,937 for demolitions and 994 for export.
Transfers of ownership decreased with 22,025 units compared to 23,317 in 2019 while the first registrations for what concerns used cars in 2020 were over 1,700, 48% with the first foreign license plate registered until 2011.
What you read in this photograph by ANFIA, the National Association of the Automobile Industry Industry, is a rather merciless portrait and industry experts hope for a general post-pandemic recovery as soon as possible and estimate a variable period between 3 and 5 years.
In this first half of 2021, things are not going better, on the contrary the situation worsens with a decrease of 26% recorded in April compared to the same period of 2019.
To follow the right path, maximum consultation is required to make the best use of all the resources not spent so far in the Investment Fund and therefore it is of vital importance to approve an operational plan by the end of the year that describes how to use the resources, that are not only state-owned.
Finally, a measure must be envisaged that allows the scrapping of obsolete towed vehicles to renew the fleet for the benefit of the environment and road safety.
