THE MARKET FOR INDUSTRIAL VEHICLES SHOWS A DECREASE OF 15 PER CENT IN THE MONTH OF MAY
Predictably, as soon as the contributions of the economic incentives of the Sabatini Law were exhausted, the industrial vehicle market in May marked a drastic decrease of 15% compared to the same period of 2019 (the comparison with 2020 still remains un reliable due to the pandemic).
Unfortunately, it is not surprising in this drop in sales, once the contribution has ended, the effects of the post-pandemic rebound also evaporate due to the abandonment by market policy, which still suffers from a fragility due to of the epidemiological crisis.
Faced with the total absence of incentives to support road transport, the renewal process of a fleet that is quite old in Italy inevitably stops. Suffice it to say that at the end of 2020 the fleet had an average seniority of 12 and a half years with 46% of vehicles before Euro 4. The Italian fleet records the sad record of being among the most obsolete in Europe.
Renewing the incentives means not only facilitating economic operators, but also the environment with lower C02 emissions into the atmosphere, benefits in terms of road safety and revenue for the state coffers. Much remains to be done to initiate a true ecological transition in our country and it is therefore urgent to refinance the Ecobonus Fund, with incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles without scrapping.
Here are some numbers relating to the 1st quarter 2021: when the Ecobonus Fund was in force, the analysis of the market structure confirms the positive trend with a plus 0.7 percent. A double-digit increase affects LPG, which rises 2.6 per cent of share, while natural gas vehicles are reduced to 2 per cent of share. Hybrid vehicles fared very well, reaching 5.8 per cent of the market, while electric vehicles were just under 1 per cent.
