PEAK MARKET FOR TRAILED VEHICLES IN APRIL
The towed vehicle market is still at a peak, with a negative balance of -26.9% in the month of April alone. And it is not just the cause of the pandemic, because the negative trend has been going on for some years now, because the sector is weighed down by heavy political uncertainties and a lack of development programs.
Today the situation is still very negative and will tend to worsen even more if the contributions program implemented up to now is not renewed for the future.
Let´s give some numbers: in the first four months of 2021 1,475 units were registered and if we make a comparison with 2019, the last year before Covid the decline is 19.2%. Contributions are needed to renew the fleet, because today towed vehicles have a really excessive average age, which compromises safety on our roads. In recent years, the Government has focused a lot on intermodality of transport, but according to the trade unions in the sector it cannot be the only way, because the railway infrastructures in Italy are inadequate and today only with road transport is a certain elasticity to meet the needs of the Italian productive fabric.
The prospects at this point do not seem very promising, because the PNRR (National Plan of Resistance and Resilience) that was presented last April as part of the Recovery Plan seems to have little to do with logistics, let alone road transport that fails compete with foreign competition. Paolo Starace, President of the Industrial Vehicles Section of UNRAE, is a cry of alarm and if the right balance between environmental sustainability and feasibility is not adopted and above all then if pragmatism and sharing of objectives are lacking, you will not go anywhere.
