THE TRADITIONAL TRANSPORT TRANSPORT REPORT PRESENTED BY THE ANFIA
The national association of the automotive industry chain has presented in recent weeks the traditional road freight transport report which represents a photograph of the freight transport in Italy and Europe in the two-year period 2018-2019 and in the first quarter of 2020 on official data processed by the institutes of statics. Italian and European.
The dossier highlights how in 2019 the economic conditions of this sector worsened significantly compared to 2018 due to the slowdown in manufacturing and commercial tensions, which then worsened in the first quarter of 2020 due to the coronavirus emergency with consequent stop to industrial activities and non-essential commercials in many European countries, first of all Italy.
For the moment, however, let´s just rattle off the 2019 data which records an increase in the transport of goods purchased through e-commerce: according to Eurostat surveys, online purchases in Europe have affected 63% of individuals (in Italy 38%), while in the period 2008-2018, the percentage of companies that had online sales in Europe increased from 13 to 20%.
The dossier dedicates a large chapter on the technological and regulatory challenges affecting the market for these vehicles and last year, the European Council formally adopted the proposal of the European Commission to reduce CO2 emissions from industrial vehicles. The EU Regulation 2019/1242 provides for two levels of reduction for 2025 and 2030, respectively of 15% and 30%, compared to the average value of 2019, the year in which all European heavy vehicle manufacturers have adopted the same system of calculation (the VECTO software) to declare carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
In 2018, road freight traffic in the EU recorded a volume of 1.925 billion euros with almost 15 billion tons handled (+ 1.2% on 2017 and + 6% on 2014) and finally always in 2018 the transport of road goods the main mode of transport is confirmed with 73% in Europe and 80% in Italy with over 3 million employees, of whom 332 thousand in Italy.
In these times of crisis it is necessary to take all the necessary measures so that workers do not lose their jobs, because the health emergency and the epidemic containment measures have had a significant impact by slowing down or blocking their activity, when instead the road freight transport has and must play a central role in the procurement and distribution of health and primary goods.
