LIQUID CNG TRUCK

LIQUID CNG TRUCK
Some time ago in this same column, where we publish many news on the world of trucks and heavy transport in general, we discussed the new frontier of methanol, which is a fossil fuel derived from organic materials that several manufacturers, particularly the Chinese Geely new energy commercial vehicle group is studying to produce an engine capable of incorporating this type of alternative fuel and to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, reduce consumption and also the fuel cost, while maintaining, however, the performance over long distances. Now another frontier about alternative fuel is liquid methane, where several companies are gearing up to put liquid methane trucks on the market, combining technology and innovation and increasingly respecting the environment and also the pockets. Liquid methane, in fact, involves a 15% reduction in consumption and a reduction in fuel costs between 15 and 20%, even if the initial investment is still a bit high and before costs are amortized. times are quite long.
For the moment we are talking about a complex technology, developed around the diesel engine, which unlike the petrol engine does not have candles, but has a direct injection which involves a compression ignition. And it is not a problem recently, because liquid methane is triggered at 537 degrees, while diesel ignition occurs at much lower temperatures. The solution to overcome this problem in a liquid methane truck is in the achievement of an air-methane mixture, which in the ignition phase is also associated with the right amount of diesel fuel to get the ignition with a really minimal amount of diesel fuel required. Furthermore, the procedure is controlled by a sensor system and an electronic control unit, without any human intervention. To have a range of 750 kilometers, just one cylinder is enough, which can also be 500 liters. This saves even in maintenance.
Once all these mechanical problems have been solved, however, the question of the distribution of liquid methane distribution points, which is currently very limited throughout the national territory, is not a problem, even if a gas distribution is present especially in the central north.
