MORE MONEY TO PAY FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE ROAD CODE
Starting from 1 January 2019 the law n. 132/2018 which updates the amounts of pecuniary administrative sanctions for violations of the highway code, which provide for an increase in the event of a fine that fluctuates at + 2.2% compared to the previous two-year period.
This increase is justified by the rather alarming figures contained in the report to the Commission for road safety in road haulage, where the Road Police reports the checks carried out in 2018, noting that the major infringements concern speeding, overloading of goods and driving times that exceed those permitted by law.
Particularly interesting is the controls carried out from January to August 2018, where the police officers carried out 200,999 checks on vehicles equipped with a tachograph, with an increase of 4.4% compared to 193,551 in the same period of 2017. Of these , 85.1% had an Italian number plate, 13.4% foreign plate, but anyway belonging to the European Union and only 1.5% had an extra-Community license plate.
As a result of these checks, the main infringements found concern, as we said, the excess speed limits and that is why from 2019 a real sting is planned; in particular, exceeding the limits for less than 10 km / h will result in a fine of 42 euros, while for those exceeding the limit of 10 km / h the new penalty will be 173 euros. For those who press on the accelerator and exceeds by more than 40 km / h the penalty will go from 532 euros to 544 euros. If the conditions are met, the responsibility will be jointly with the trucking company, the customers and the owners of the goods.
Other violations more committed by truck drivers are the violations of art. 174 of the Highway Code that regulates the driving times and rest periods of drivers, but there are other infringements that have significantly lower numbers and therefore are not affected by this year´s legislative reform. Among these stands out the art. 164 of the CdS and concerns the arrangement of the load on vehicles.
Hard times even for those who circulate without insurance where the penalty has increased to 868 euros, while transit with the red light and circular against traffic you get to 167 euros.
