NIKOLA LANDS IN EUROPE WITH HYDROGEN TRUCKS

NIKOLA LANDS IN EUROPE WITH HYDROGEN TRUCKS
Last November, the American company Nikola announced that it has designed an industrial vehicle with electric drive and fuel cells.
In April 2019, in fact, will be introduced into the European market Nikola 3, a heavy vehicle with hydrogen-powered electric drive suitable for long distances, stating that this model was designed only for the European market, which prefers a back cabin, where the windscreen is aligned at the hub of the front wheels. This solution is adopted above all in the means of transport or for the towing of short tanker semitrailers, but it is above all a directive at European level, which imposes on the producers a rather stringent size compared to the American ones.
This vehicle will be the first European zero-emission truck equipped with an automatic braking and steering system, but above all, as we have already said, it will be the first hydrogen-powered truck thanks to a 120 kw fuel cell. There will also be a version for the autonomous level five guide, the highest one for automation.
It has not yet been officially presented and the first web bookings have already started, which have greatly excited Nikola´s top management, who have as their objective the creation of a hydrogen distribution network; in fact, by 2030 the American company intends to build over 700 hydrogen distributors not only in North America, but also in most of the European market, where each station will be able to produce up to 8000 kilos of hydrogen per day. Nikola is still deciding where to locate the European branch for the production of vehicles.
As for the technical characteristics, the Nikola 3 will be produced in two power ratings of 500 hp and 1000 hp, in tractor configurations 6x4 or 6x2 and with autonomy from 500 to 1000 hp.
