Trucks in Italy: too many and old

Trucks in Italy: too many and old
According to a survey carried out by the Continental Truck Research Center on ACI data, commercial vehicles (with PTT greater than 3.5 tonnes) circulate in Italy whose duration from the date of registration exceeds 13 years against 12 years of European vehicles. And this is a very disturbing fact, because the more the resources are too old, the repercussions of pollution are greater. To give an idea of the importance of the topic, remember that in Germany the average age stops at 8 years, in Holland at 7.9, in France at 7.5, in Sweden at 8.5, in the United Kingdom at 8.8, in Belgium and Ireland at 9.8 and in Spain at 12, 6. Only countries like Greece, Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Romania and Portugal, the situation is worse than ours with quite old-fashioned trucks and trucks in circulation.
The problem of old vehicles in circulation also has repercussions on road safety, because they are vehicles that do not have the latest generation of safety systems that can prevent certain accidents.
At the regional level, the statistical study shows that antiquated vehicles circulate more to the South, especially Sicily has this particular record, most likely due to the economic crisis, which is most felt in depressed areas, where trucking companies have less investment capacity . The regions of the North, on the other hand, in particular in Trentino Alto Adige, the means are younger with 11 years of "old age".
Even if the numbers are rather discouraging, it must also be said that in the last two years the situation has improved, because the average age of the vehicles was 16 years, whereas in the medium-term vehicles it was even 19 years old.
What needs to be done to get a reversal is to accelerate the process of replacement of the circulating fleet, increasing the registrations of commercial vehicles to remove from the road the means that are older, polluting and dangerous, but it is not an immediate solution, but in the short term, companies that can not afford the purchase of a new vehicle can adopt solutions such as the use of retreaded tires or special sensors to monitor their pressure.
